Abstract: The principal aim of this talk is to highlight recent progress in the study of largely deviant events relating to either macroscopic covering or disconnection by the simple random walk, or by the complements of certain correlated percolation models in their respective (strongly) percolative regime, in dimension greater or equal to three. The latter include the vacant set of random interlacements (RI) and the upper level-sets of the Gaussian free field (GFF), including for the GFF the situation in which the underlying lattice is equipped with random, uniformly elliptic conductances.

Bio:Maximilian Nitzschner is currently an assistant professor at the Department of Mathematics, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. He received his PhD from D-MATH, ETH Zurich under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Alain-Sol Sznitman in 2020. Between 2020 and 2023, he was a Courant Instructor at the Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences, New York University. His research is primarily in probability theory and mathematical physics, with a focus on disordered media, percolation, and random walks.
